Why Do Mormon Leadership Lie To Mormons About What Really Happened To Joesph Smith?

Are You know decision of this problem? On youtube, it has a video from a mormon sermon about Joesph Smiths' "martyr", and the guy says that Joesph Smith told the guards who held him "captive" and told them a powerful testimony of the divine authencity Book of Mormon. Then he says, a pistol was fired, and killed him and someone else. Now this is historically not true, that didn't happen, history says that Joesph Smith tried to break out of jail, and in doing so a firefight happened and he was shooting at people and people shot at him and killed him. And this is from first hand testimony on record our court documents. So why do Mormon leadership lie to mormons about things that can be historically proven not to be true, like Native Americans being a lost tribe of Israel and such??

My favorite decision is I don't think he was killed because he was breaking out. He was indeed killed by a mob, although he did shoot a couple of them with a gun that was smuggled in for him. The part that is never talked about is that he was in jail because of his lies about polygamy. He had introduced polygamy to over 200 men and 700 women in Nauvoo. They all lied about it, very publicly, even to other Mormons. When a top Mormon who refused to participate in it decided to print the story in a newspaper, Smith had the press destroyed. That landed him in jail. It was the polygamy and lies that finally led to his doom. When I grew up Mormon, we were taught that polygamy started in Utah. It didn't. The 2nd and 3rd LDS presidents both had children in polygamy in Nauvoo. It has only been in the last couple years that Mormons have talked openly about polygamy in Nauvoo, and many Mormons still don't know. I think that is the big cover up about his death, not the actual killings. He had over 20 wives when he made this very public speech. He was killed a few weeks after it. His arrogance and lawbreaking drove his MidWest neighbors to act in vile ways.
